Mount Rinjani is located on the island of Lombok, west Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. and is surrounded by four sections districts that east lombok districts, central lombok districts, west lombok district, and north lombok districts.

 How high is Mount Rinjani?

Mount Rinjani peak altitude is 3726 (meters above sea level), is the second highest volcano in Indonesia after Mount Kerinci in Sumatra.

When is the best time and seasone to climb Mt. Rinjani?
The best time to go to mt.rinjani is start from mei to oktober,is considered the best seasone to climb,because that month is high seasone/summer time.however,the world climate has changed drastically,it’s really hard to predict the weather.
Rain seasone normally start from december to april or mei and every years trekking activity will close 3 month.(normally from january to march)

 It’s safe to climb Mount Rinjani?
Yes. Apart from ‘Act of God’ incidents, as long as you listen to your mountain guide’s instructions and stay on the track, there is less risk of suffering any injury and/or accident. There are reported incidents where climbers lost their way, injured themselves or lost their lives on the mountain, but note that these usually happens when they leave the marked trail on their own and/or get deviated from their group.

 Can we swim and fishing in the lake?
Yes. You can swim and fishing at the lake of mount rinjani,temperature is about 10-15 degrees(in the afternoon)and you have opportunitiy to fishing here if you take a program trip 4 days 3 night or 5 days 4 night.a lot fish you can catch,there are a kind of fish as karper,mujair and any small fish.

 Can we swim and shower in the hot spring?
Yes. Everybody can swim and shower in the hot springs,because temperature of hot spring is about 25-30 degrees.so is safe for swim and shower. And the shape of a hot springs is like a swimming pool, you can freely swim and jump from a higher place.

 Questions on planning trip

 How long does it take to climb Mt. Rinjani?

Trip to Mount Rinjani takes a minimum of 2 days 1 night just to get to the top and does not include programs to the lake . and for the program to the lake and to the hot springs , we require a minimum of 3 days 2 nights and a maximum of 4 days 3 nights . for novice climbers , it is not advisable to take the program 3 days 2 nights because the ascent on Mount Rinjani is hard and challenge, the way up and down,sleepry and sandy make you be must extra becarefulland patience to achieve your goal .

 Can I do a day hike to the summit of rinjani?

No. Because a trip to the summit need time approximately maximal 11 hours from sembalun village to the summit and return is about 9-hours. So.. this is impossible.

How much distance will be pursued?
The distance that you will be taken depending on how long the climb you take.
The following is the distance traveled for each package:
2 days 1 night summit(return) is 23 km
2 days 1 night senaru crater rim is 18 km
3 days 2 night crater rim,lake& summit is 28 km
3 days 2 night lake&hotspring only is 23 km

How many days should i spend on mount rinjani trip?
for you beginner climbers , I suggest to take the program package 4 days 3 nights . because this package is perfect for your first time doing mountain climbing . program 4 days 3 nights package is very flexible with travel time , you can rest and relax with a sufficient enough . but if you are beginners who take the package 3 days 2 nights , you will feel very tired and in a hurry , because often you are late with the time in the schedule . Another thing with the climbers that are used to perform a variety of other mountain climbing on her , they would always be precise with the time in the schedule .

 What time am i expected to reach sembalun village or senaru village on the day of descend from Mount Rinjani?
Arrival time is very subjective as it all depends on the climber and their group physical fitness. A reasonably fit climber can reach sembalun village or senaru village from creater rim between 2pm – 3pm. Most climbers reach between 1 – 3pm.

 Can I catch my flight on the same day I descend from Mount Rinjani?
We do not recommend climbers to rush to the airport on the same day of descent from Mt rinjani. There is a high chance that you might miss your flight due to several reasons and unforeseen circumstances. Slow in your descent, injury, landslides, traffic congestion, vehicle breakdown & etc. HERMAN TREKKER RINJANI will not be responsible for any losses incurred due to missed flights.

Should I purchase a personal travel insurance plan?
Yes, you are strongly encouraged to purchase a comprehensive personal travel insurance policy for the duration of the trip from your own country; to cover against Personal Accident, Loss of baggage, Delays, Unexpected alterations to travel arrangements, Cancellation, Act of God, Emergency Medical Evacuation, Infectious diseases, Epidemics, Terrorism etc. Although all our Mount rinjani climb packages include a personal accident plan by rinjani national Parks for all climbers, the coverage and claim value is very limited and subject to approval by rinjani national park.

The difference between private deluxe package with a package of private standards only on a hotel stay the night before the climb and on the trekking equipment, but food and menu on the mountain will be the same .

 What a difference a private package with  sharing / group package?

The difference is in the number of participants who will join their hike with your different from other countries. I will explain why we highly recommend you to choose a private trek, because the services in private trek get better, faster, and more convenient. while the sharing package you will do trekking with a number of groups more, from different country, different characters and porter service will be a little slow because working for many people, therefore your comfort, your privacy will be slightly disturbed, that way HERMAN TREKKER Team set up for private trek highly recommended.

 Why do I have to pay a deposite

Because your deposit is proof of your seriousness to join in making the climb with us and provide a sense of security for us in the book a room and preparing all the necessities for the program that you have planned ascent before.

 Question on Cancellations & Refunds

 Do i get refunds if i did not reach the summit during my climb?
Unfortunately no, there is no refund under any circumstances including, but not limited to, summit closure due to bad weather, Act of God, being refused climb by mount rinjani national park rangers or mountain guides due to your personal health and safety reasons or any other reasons that may affect the authorities’ decision to disallow you to summit.

 Do i get a refunds if i am unable to proceed for the climb due to flight delay?
If your tour has not commenced, the refund will be based on our Cancellation Policy. There would be no refunds less than four (04) days of notification or after the tour has commenced or for any unused tour services including but not limited to transfer, meals & accommodation, guiding, the climb itself or any other services not utilized.

 Do i get refund if i am unable to proceed for the climb duo to personal or health reasone such as food soisoning?
If your tour has not commenced, the refund will be based on our Cancellation Policy. There would be no refunds less than four (04) days of notification or after the tour has commenced or for any unused tour services including but not limited to transfer, meals & accommodation, guiding, the climb itself or any other services not utilized.

 Do I get refund if I am unable to proceed for the climb due to hospitalization?

Questions on Age and Fitness Level

 Who can climb Mount rinjani? Any age limit?
There is no particular age limit for Mount rinjani climbers. As long as you are in good health status or you have seeapproval from your doctor if you are on any medication. Mount Rinjani has served thousands of climbers ranging from 10 year old to 80 year old. However, we suggest young children to be at least 10 year old due to the numerous steps and steep slopes. Similarly, elderly climbers need to be in good health and fitness level to attempt the climb.

 Are there any health restrictions for climbers?

Although there is no physical health checks done upon registration in rinjani national Park, it is recommended that all climbers should have themselves medically checked before attempting any mountain climb. If you are pregnant or have a history of suffering from the following ailments, it is highly recommended that you should refrain from climbing: Hypertension, Diabetes, Palpitation, Arthritis, Heart Disease, Severe Anemia, Peptic Ulcers, Epileptic Fits, Obesity (Overweight), Chronic Asthma, Muscular Cramps, Hepatitis (Jaundice); or any other disease which may hamper the climber. You know your body best! 

Do I need any special skills or equipment for the climb?

No. Although Mt rinjani is an adventure destination, you do not need any special climbing skills or equipment. Climbing Mt rinjani is akin to climbing up endless flight of stairs and equipping yourself with a good pair of walking/trekking shoes, waterproof warm jacket, head torch & gloves are good enough. Anyone that is reasonably fit and healthy can attempt the climb with confidence. Remember to do regular exercises as this will give you an added edge in attempting a successful climb. How physically fit I should be to do the climb?
The mountain climb takes at least there days, the first day being relatively straightforward – 9,5 km of steps like track up to 1500 masl, the second day being slightly technical – climb to the summit with ropes at an angle of about 2– 10 degrees inclination. If you are able to climb a flight of 12 storey staircase up and down few times in a day with not much difficulties, that shows you are ready!

How bad are the effects of high altitude?
Altitude sickness or Acute Mountain Syndrome (AMS) affects every individual differently and is regardless of fitness level. Most climbers will experience lightheadedness or a mild headache, while a small percentage of climbers will suffer from nausea or vomiting. The symptoms of AMS vary for different people but include dizziness, fatigue, confusion, difficulty walking, rattling breath and feeling extremely ill. If you experience any of these symptoms, avoid physical exertion and breathing too slow and too shallow. Most importantly is to keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water. Return to a lower elevation if you are suffering badly and the symptoms do not subside. Seek medical assistance from your guide and he will advise you where to move on from here.

 Question on Bad Weather and Accidents

 Can I still climb Mount rinjani during bad weather?
Yes, at least for the program to the crater rim. Mostly because the climb to the rim is on the right track with the steps. but for the program to the lake in the rain would be very dangerous because the road is rocky and the cliffs are often landslides in the rain. and to program the summit in bad weather conditions such as strong winds, fog and rain, not too dangerous. but must have a healthy immune system, because when the weather is bad, its very cold temperatures when the rain and fog, sand dust when strong winds.

 Do I get a refund if bad weather at the summit?
No refund shall be made for the cancellation of the summit program. This is due to the Law of God and also for safety reasons climbers. but you can continue your program into a lake&hotsprings or can directly consult with your guide.

 If I am injured/sick during my climb, what should I do?
Please inform your mountain guide immediately. He will access your condition and make proper decision if you should continue trekking or be sent back to the village and than bring to hospital near the village. Emergency rescue team will be alerted and they will carry the badly sick/injured down at no charge. For minor injuries or other reasons, you can be charged Rp.1.500.000for the porter team to stretcher/carry you down or up the mountain. Not all such cases can be claimed under the Rinjani national park personal insurance. You are advised to purchase your own travel insurance separately for better coverage.

 I notice there are helipads in Mount Rinjani, can we hire helicopter services?
In fact, the area of Mount Rinjani is a no-fly zone. Even in many emergency cases involving life-threatening situations, helicopter service may not be involved. Visibility in this area could pose a potential risk to pilots and passengers of life as climate change at any time without warning. Visibility could be near zero and helicopters can hit a tree.

Questions on Climb Preparation

 What preparation or training do we need to climb Mount Rinjani?
A routine of walking up hill/staircase for at least 2-4 weeks before the actual climb should be adequate as a basic training preparation for this mountain climb.

 What do I need to bring?
Refer to “Things to Bring” for a checklist of what you will normally bring for mountain hiking. This is the standard packing list and you can make changes according to your own needs and preferences. However, we recommend that your backpack weight to be between 6-8kg or less.

 Are trekking shoes and head torch compulsory?
Shoes are required to climb from the start point to the top. sandals and bare feet are not allowed and you will be denied the climb to the summit by mountain guide you if you do not wear shoes. As a head torch, we strongly advise you to have one for your own safety. There is a great possibility that you will be rejected to the top without a head torch.

 Where can I store my extra belongings/bags as I do not wish to bring them for the climb?
you can save it in kantorHERMAN TREKKER, your goods will be safe there until you returned from Mt. Rinjani. we are fully responsible for the goods that you store in our office.

 What is the temperature like?
Temperatures on Mount Rinjani depending on the weather. if the weather is normal is approximately 10-15 degrees Celsius (at night) on the crater rim and lakes and in the Peak Summit Low around 0-5 degrees Celsius (before sunrise) is recommended to have at least four layers of clothing including a jacket to ascend the summit.
and if its windy and rainy weather, the temperature will be cooler than before.

 What is the cost of hiring a porter?
For hiring a porter,you have to pay Rp.225.000/day.
Note:The maximum weight is20kg
All payments are made directly to the porters in cash or can give to the owner of the company.

 Will the porters trek along with me?
No. The porters, not as a mountain guide, will carry your stuff will run non-stop to the camping place and awaiting your arrival. Therefore, do not ask them to bring items that are considered useful for you during your ascent. This tip is to pack two bags separately; water, energy bar) will be done by you all the way up.

How much water should I bring?
Most climbers really need about 1. 5L-2L per day. 1500ml drinking water will be provided at the time of starting the journey. A refillable water bottle is handy because you can ask to refill your water if it is up to the porter or guide you. note: Your guide always check the availability of your water throughout your journey on the mountain rinjani.

What can I expect in the packed lunch?
A packed lunch may vary periodically, but usually, it was included – eggs, chicken, white rice, local snacks, fruits, and a bottle of mineral water

 Can I have vegetarian menu?
Our standard vegetarian menu is mostly based on ovo-lacto vegetarians. It can be Easily accommodated in most areas, options typically leave out the meat rather than adding vegetarian mainstays such as tofu, beans, or nuts. Vegetarianism is a concept our country is still learning to comprehend. Please note that unfortunately, HERMAN TREKKER.COM can not guarantee that special requirements can always be met for other types of vegetarians. In tour packages where meals are served buffet / set menu style, we suggest that you leave out the meat or other things you do not eat.
